Benefits of University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships
University of Manitoba Graduate fellowships offer funding in the form of stipends, scholarships, or research assistantships. Tuition fees, living expenses, research expenditures, and other educational costs may be partially or fully covered by this financial aid. Many graduate scholarships are research-focused and give students the chance to work on innovative research projects. This can improve a student’s academic and research abilities and improve their chances of landing a good job in the future.
- The maximum value of the UMGF master’s prizes is $28,000, or $14,000 per year for 12 or 24 months.
- The maximum amount for UMGF doctorate grants is $72,000, or $18,000 per year for 12, 24, 36, or 48 months.
- The value and duration of an award are decided by the departments/units, who must also satisfy the requirements listed in the eligibility table.
Eligible Fields
University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGF) is not open to students enrolled in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Finance (MFin), or Master of Supply Chain Management (MCSM) programs.
University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships Criteria
The fellowships, worth $18,000 for doctoral students and $14,000 for master’s students, are given out each year to graduate students who:
- are enrolled or intend to enroll in a research-based Master’s or Ph.D. program at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Graduate Studies as full-time students (excluding pre-masters or occasional students; students pursuing the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Finance (MFin), or Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM) are not qualified for the UMGF because these programs do not require a research-based thesis);
- based on their acceptance into their present graduate program, a minimum entry grade point average of 3.00. Some departments have higher GPA requirements;
- exhibit outstanding potential as researchers and graduate students;
- are accepted or enrolled in a graduate program that qualifies for tri-council graduate student scholarships.
Recipients are prohibited from receiving grades lower than a C+ (even in AX courses) during the term of the award and are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

Documents/Material Required to Apply
Depending on the fellowship program and the faculty or department to which you are applying, different University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships may have different particular documentation requirements. However, most colleges, including the University of Manitoba, normally require the following records for graduate fellowship applications:
