University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships Criteria

The fellowships, worth $18,000 for doctoral students and $14,000 for master’s students, are given out each year to graduate students who:

  • are enrolled or intend to enroll in a research-based Master’s or Ph.D. program at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Graduate Studies as full-time students (excluding pre-masters or occasional students; students pursuing the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Finance (MFin), or Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM) are not qualified for the UMGF because these programs do not require a research-based thesis);
  • based on their acceptance into their present graduate program, a minimum entry grade point average of 3.00. Some departments have higher GPA requirements;
  • exhibit outstanding potential as researchers and graduate students;
  • are accepted or enrolled in a graduate program that qualifies for tri-council graduate student scholarships.

Recipients are prohibited from receiving grades lower than a C+ (even in AX courses) during the term of the award and are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
