Benefits of Western Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
Western Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program offers the following financial benefits to the fellows:
- Fellowships will come with benefits for two years and a minimum salary of $60,000 annually under any changes to the association agreement. Western Research will provide up to 50% of the Fellowship salary.
- The fellowship will also provide 14% benefits of the salary
- Moreover, during the two years, Western Research will provide a $5,000 annual research allowance.
- Approximate total award value: $148,681 over two years.
Criteria
The candidates must fulfill the following criteria to apply for the Western Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program:
- The applicant’s official convocation or graduation date for their PhD (or PhD-equivalent, if applicable) must have occurred no more than five (5) years before the Postdoctoral Fellowship is scheduled to begin. By the time the award began, all PhD prerequisites had to be completed.
- The specified 5-year window of eligibility may be extended in light of the disruptions that applicants may experience owing to a variety of life circumstances that could impact their project work, career trajectory, and academic achievements.
- Individuals who are employed as postdoctoral fellows at Western or who have held postdoctoral fellowships at Western in the past are not eligible to apply.
- Currently, candidates are not eligible to hold a faculty position that leads to permanent status or one that is permanent.
- The recipients of this grant are not permitted to hold postdoctoral positions at another university.
- Applicants must obtain the written consent of a Western University faculty member who meets the requirements and is capable of serving as the postdoctoral fellow’s host supervisor and mentor. Supervisors must also be employed by Western in a capacity suitable for research.
- Applications where postdoctoral scholars are additionally hired by Western Research to teach one or more courses may be taken into consideration. Under these circumstances, the suggested Fellowship will be lowered on an individual basis in conjunction with SGPS in proportion to paid teaching.
- If an applicant is not a citizen of Canada, they must get all requisite visas, permits, or documentation from any applicable authorities.

Application Procedure
There are two stages to the Western Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program:
- The applicant for a postdoctoral fellowship must turn in a completed Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Application Form together with the necessary attachments to their faculty dean’s office:
- Research Project Proposal, no more than four pages
- Reference/bibliography (maximum of two pages);
- Host Supervisor Statement, no more than three pages
- A maximum of five pages for the postdoctoral scholar’s CV;
- Most noteworthy contributions (maximum of one page);
- Proof of PhD (original work including translation if needed);
- Two (2) referees’ letters of support.
- If the candidate is conducting research in the community, a letter of support from the community partner is necessary and may be added as a third (or additional) reference letter.
- The online submission portal must receive all faculty-level application submissions by Research Grant Management and Services, Western Research by February 27, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. ET. The submission needs to contain:
- Complete the application package for each candidate in the Postdoctoral Fellowship program.
- A summary PDF file with the faculty selection committee’s remarks, ranking, and average scores is provided.
- By this date, a Western University ROLA Proposal for the application must be submitted by the Principal Supervisor (after consulting with the Postdoctoral Applicant).
