Deep-Learning Accelerated Computational Fluid Dynamic Model For Pollutant Dispersion In Urban Environment (RS446)

Computational methods for predicting complex unsteady flows are computationally difficult, whereas full-field experimental methods are prohibitively expensive. This project is at the cutting edge of the rapidly developing fields of machine learning and data-driven computational modeling. The project aims to create novel new models that predict fluid mechanic properties by integrating advances in high-order CFD techniques for accurate and robust simulations of urban flows.

Visualization of Temporal Networks Through Interactions with The Space-Time Cube (Rs179)

The student will look into perceptually effective ways to divide and visualize the space-time cube. To begin, the project will visualize the contents of this space-time cube using an embedded network drawn with an event-based dynamic graph drawing algorithm. In this case, the visualization methods will concentrate on visualizing the already existing structure within the drawing, which takes into account both spatial position and time at the same time. Then, we’ll look into methods for drawing dynamic graphs on demand in a user-controlled space-time cube.

Ai-Based Crop Detection Using Spectral Remote Sensing Images (Rs291)

The availability of free medium/high spatial resolution satellite images has enabled possible solutions to the challenging dynamic land use and land cover mapping problems. The goal of this project is to create new AI techniques for crop detection and mapping.

Crop detection is the first step in AI-based time series analyses, which aim to provide fundamental data for a wide range of socioeconomic applications. Crop control and yield estimation are examples, as change monitoring, supply chain and food security policies, and climate change policies such as crop rotation, insurance, and fertilization services.

Candidates must normally have a 2.1 undergraduate degree and a recognized master’s degree with Merit (or non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University) in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Computational Law of Autonomous Vehicles (RS289)

The challenges of computational law are to integrate logical formalizations of the law, rules, and actions in a programming language, and natural language representations. The overall goal is to incorporate soft legal constraints into operating systems rather than hard constraints, and external adjudication. There has been academic progress in the last three years in integrating the law (the Law Commission’s consultation) with Artificial Intelligence.

The PhD will advance cutting-edge approaches and tools to conduct fundamental research on computational law for AVs on issues such as vagueness/open-textured terms, conflicting information, exceptions, events/causation, and natural language translations of logic or system reports. The work is relevant to the government as well as the insurance and legal service industries. Data science connections and integration will also be investigated.

Data-Informed In-Silico Modelling Of Multi-Material Electro Active Polymer Based Soft Robots (RS293)

The development of EAP soft robots is still in its early stages due to the numerous design parameters that must be considered, acting as a bottleneck for progress in the field. Novel computational modeling, 3D/4D printing, and prototyping of two/three multiphase EAPs will be used in this project to “inform” the in-silico design of novel EAP soft robots.
