The Helmut Veith Scholarship is given each year to exceptionally gifted and driven female computer science students who are enrolled in (or intend to enroll in) one of the TU Wien master’s programs in computer science taught in English and have (or have an interest to develop) a strong mathematical and technical background in at least one of the fields in which Austrian scientist Helmut Veith worked.

Benefits of the Helmut Veith Scholarship Program
The following benefits when receiving the Helmut Veith Scholarship:
- EUR 6000 each year for a maximum of two years.
- At TU Wien, all fees are waived.

Candidates must be eligible for admission to one of the English-taught master’s programs in computer science at TU Wien.
- Master in Logic and Computation
- Master in Business Informatics
- Master in Computer Engineering (Technische Informatik)
- Master in Data Science
- Master in Media and Human-Centered Computing
Eligibility Criteria
Female students who fit the criteria below are qualified to apply for the Helmut Veith Scholarship Program:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Mathematics (Bologna first cycle) or equivalent degree
- Extensive mathematical and technical knowledge and interest in (at least one of) Helmut Veith’s areas of research:
- Logic in Computer Science
- Formal Methods and Verification
- Foundations of Artificial Intelligence
- Algorithms and Complexity Theory
- Computer Security
- Proficiency in English
*Note: The scholarship will only be given to applicants who have been unconditionally admitted to the master’s program, even if funding applications may be submitted prior to or concurrently with the admissions process. An application for funding does not take the place of the admissions procedure, and a conditional funding offer does not provide the applicant the right to enroll in classes at TU Wien.
Documents/Material Required to Apply
- Cover letter outlining the sort of financing the student is looking for and any other information the student feels is important for the application
- Curriculum Vitae.
- a motivational letter outlining the student’s goals for enrolling in the chosen program, the need for funds, and the faculty members with whom they would most like to collaborate on their master’s thesis.
- examination reports (transcripts) from higher education
- certificates or diplomas (first degree, bachelor’s degree, or higher). The degree type and anticipated graduation date must be stated on a preliminary certificate signed and stamped by the institution conferring the degree, in the event that the final academic certificate is not yet available at the time of the application deadline.
- information on how to reach two referees (for letters of recommendation)
- (TOEFL or equivalent) English language proficiency certificate
- passport copy
Note: Documents that aren’t in German or English need to be translated into those languages with a certified translation.

The deadline for the next Helmut Veith Scholarship call is November 30, 2024.
