The National Centre for Physics (NCP) in Islamabad offers postdoctoral research opportunities in the physical sciences to young scientists from poor nations (apart from Pakistan) who want to work in its departments and laboratories.

The monthly stipend that NCP will give should be utilized to pay for living expenses like food, lodging, and health insurance. Foreign currency exchange will not be available for the monthly stipend.

Criteria

Candidates for these fellowships need to fulfill the following requirements:

  • be citizens of a developing nation (other than Pakistan) and live there permanently;
  • must not possess a visa for either long-term or short-term residence in Pakistan or any other developed nation;
  • own a PhD in a natural science discipline;
  • submit an application for the fellowship within five years of receiving a PhD in a natural science subject;
  • have a research assignment and be regularly engaged in a developing nation (other than Pakistan);
  • supply a medical professional’s certified good health certificate;
  • offer a formal letter of acceptance from NCP. In order to designate a host supervisor, requests for acceptance must be addressed to the Director of the Collaboration & Academic Activities Directorate (CAAD) at caad@ncp.edu.pk.
  • provide proof of English proficiency if English was not the primary language of instruction; 
  • demonstrate that the fellow will return home after the fellowship is over; 
  • promise not to take on any other assignments during the fellowship period; 
  • and agree to cover the costs of any accompanying family members.

Documents/Material Required to Apply

The following documents are required to apply for the TWAS-NCP Postdoctoral Fellowship Program:

  • Letter of Acceptance from NCP: An official letter from an NCP scientist accepting to oversee your research project is called an acceptance letter from NCP.
  • PhD Certificate: A copy of your doctoral diploma or a formal letter attesting to your doctorate’s award.
  • Proof of Nationality: A copy of your passport or another official document proving your nationality in a developing nation (other than Pakistan) serves as proof of nationality.
  • Reference Letters: Two endorsement letters from scientists who have reviewed your work. Ideally, your PhD supervisor or other senior academics should provide these.
  • List of Publications: An extensive compilation of your written works that have been published, including conference proceedings, journal articles, and any other pertinent publications.
  • Proof of Language Proficiency: Provide proof, if needed, of your ability to speak English or the NCP research/instruction language.

Deadline

The deadline to apply for the TWAS-NCP Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is 1 July 2024.

Application Procedure

  • TWAS-NCP Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Applications must be submitted with an acceptance letter from NCP, or by the latest date. If the application is not initially approved, it will not be considered for selection.
  • Prepare Documents: Gather and get ready each of the documents that are needed, as mentioned above.
  • Research Idea: Work on your research proposal with the assistance of an NCP scientist.
