The Routledge-Round Table Commonwealth Studentships, commonly referred to as the Round Table Commonwealth Scholarships, was a scholarship initiative run by Round Table International, a group that seeks to advance peace and understanding between nations.

Routledge-Round Table Commonwealth Studentships

Applications are encouraged from a wide range of humanities and social science fields, but preference may be given to fields typically covered by the Round Table journal, such as (but not limited to) politics, international relations, economics, international history, geography, law, development studies, and area studies.

For students from Commonwealth nations who want to pursue higher education in the UK, the Round Table Commonwealth Studentships are given out. Outstanding students who have shown academic distinction, leadership potential, and a desire to have a good impact on their home countries are the target audience for these scholarships.

Benefits of Routledge-Round Table Commonwealth Studentships

There are two studentships available, each with a GBP 5,500 maximum value:

  • One for doctoral candidates enrolled in UK universities.
  • One is for PhD candidates enrolled in Commonwealth nations other than the UK that are members of ACU member universities.

Following the announcement of the winners, £4,000 GB will be given out. Payment for the remaining £1,500 GBP will be made after the post-studentship conditions have been fulfilled.

Routledge-Round Table Commonwealth Studentships Eligibility

Interested candidates must fulfill the following requirements in order to be considered for the Commonwealth Scholarships:

  • Studies pertaining to science and health policies are encouraged, however, applications in the pure sciences and medicine will not be taken into consideration.
  • The first studentship is available to enrolled PhD students from UK universities, albeit they need not be residents.
  • The second is accessible to enrolled PhD candidates from ACU member institutions in Commonwealth nations other than the United Kingdom, as well as to former Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships recipients who are now pursuing their PhDs at any Commonwealth institution outside of the United Kingdom.
  • Must hold applicable bachelor’s and master’s degrees from an accredited higher education institution.
  • Candidates must exhibit outstanding academic and research skills.

Material Required

You must submit the following as part of the Routledge-Round Table Commonwealth Studentships application:

  • A curriculum vitae (CV)
  • A schedule for your student position that details:
    • The non-technical description of the job you want to do during your studentship.
    • Your studentship’s potential effects, as well as how they will increase knowledge in your profession and contribute to a better understanding of the Commonwealth.
    • the studentship’s intended results and outputs.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from an academic (ideally your PhD/DPhil supervisor) and one from a private source.

Application Deadline

The 2024–25 award application period is currently open. The deadline is July 31, 2024.
