Benefits of the Special Scholarship Program

  • Exemption from the 300,000 yen enrollment fee, the 30,000 yen entrance examination fee, and the 535,800 yen annual tuition
  • The remuneration for research project work is 150,000 yen per month, which helps to cover living expenses.
  • *Taxes on this wage must be paid in part.
  • There is a grant of 150,000 yen for travel and living expenses. (Offered only to foreign candidates who are residents of countries other than Japan and who, at the time of arrival into Japan, possess or intend to obtain the status of “Student” of Japanese residence.)

Criteria

Candidates have to fulfill the following criteria to apply for the Special Scholarship Program:

  • 3 year’s enrollment in a doctoral program at KUT
  • To gain approval to apply for the applicant’s selected SSP project from the project leader
  • After eighteen years of education, you must possess a degree from an approved institution equivalent to the master’s degree offered at KUT, or be scheduled to obtain this degree prior to the KUT enrollment date
  • ideally to be under 35 years old when enrolled
  • possessing a stellar academic record and robust master’s and bachelor’s degrees from respectable colleges
  • to be willing to work on the research project and possess the necessary knowledge and research skills
  • to be highly proficient in English (TOEFL iBT 72, IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2, CET6)

Documents/Material Required to Apply

Candidates have to arrange the following documents to apply for Special Scholarship Program:

  • A copy of an email or other correspondence that unequivocally demonstrates that the intending candidate has been granted permission to apply for the SSP project by the head of their desired project.
  • Signed pre-application request
  • Original bachelor’s degree academic transcript in English or Japanese
  • Original master’s degree academic transcript in English or Japanese
  • Original master’s degree certificate in English or Japanese
  • A copy of the intending applicant’s master’s thesis in English
  • Research Outline
  • Two signed recommendation letters in English or Japanese
  • Original certificate of health in English or Japanese issued within the past 6 months
  • Certificate of English ability (TOEFL iBT, IELTS, CET-6 or WSK)

Application Procedure

To apply for the Special Scholarship Program (SSP) at Kochi University of Technology, candidates should adhere to the following steps:

  • Select one study from the list of SSP research projects.
  • To apply for a selected SSP project, send a completed Online Pre-Application Request using the KUT Online Pre-Application Request Form to the project leader, and get their approval. It is strictly forbidden for applicants to submit more than one Pre-Application Request within a single entrance period. If your pre-application request is denied, kindly be aware that you might not hear from a project leader.
  • After receiving approval from the project manager, fill out all necessary paperwork and mail it to KUT. KUT must receive the documentation by the deadline.
