The following are the benefits of the Richard Plaschka Fellowship
Fully Funded SBW Berlin Scholarship in Germany – No Application Fee
- Monthly grant rates are
- Scholarship: EUR 1,250
- Monthly mobility subsidy: EUR 600 (for research stays of 3 months or longer)
- Assistance in arranging accommodation and health insurance
- OeAD scholarship holders can book accommodation (dormitory or apartment) through the OeAD student housing. The monthly expenses are as follows:
- monthly rent: approximately EUR 250 to 600 (depending on the amenities)
- Current monthly administrative fee: EUR 21
- OeAD scholarship holders must have health insurance that is accepted by Austrian authorities for the duration of their stay in Austria. The OeAD can assist with obtaining such insurance. The monthly costs can vary, but at the moment, you should budget between EUR 55 and 200. (depending on your age, scholarship category, and state of health).
- Scholarship recipients have to pay the costs of their accommodation and insurance themselves.
- Applicants from EU/EEA countries: Medical care costs are covered by the national insurance carrier in your home country within the European Union. Please keep your European health insurance card with you at all times.
- Applicants from non-EU/EEA countries planning a longer-than-six-month research stay: If your monthly accommodation costs in Austria exceed EUR 300, you may be required to show proof of additional funds to the Austrian residence authority when applying for a residence permit. This figure may differ depending on your personal health insurance and other liabilities.
- OeAD scholarship holders can book accommodation (dormitory or apartment) through the OeAD student housing. The monthly expenses are as follows:
- Grant recipients are exempt from paying tuition in Austria. To waive these, they may need to submit a request to the rector’s office of their respective host university and demonstrate that they are studying or conducting research as part of transnational EU, national, or university mobility programs.
- Non-European developing country scholarship holders will also receive a travel cost subsidy of up to EUR 1,000.

Follow-on Support
The initial award is up to 12 months, following a positive evaluation of the candidate’s first 12 months at an Austrian university. Additional support may be requested if the candidate works as a PostDoc lecturer at a university abroad. The Richard Plaschka Scholarship Commission decides whether fellows will be admitted to the follow-on program in consultation with the Austrian academic supervisor.

The following documents must be uploaded in conjunction with the Richard Plaschka Fellowship online application.
- Two letters of recommendation from university lecturers who are eligible to be professors (habilitation or equal qualification). In addition to the consent, the Austrian supervisor must not issue a letter of recommendation (see below). There is no specific format for these letters of recommendation; however, they must include the letterhead, date, and signature of the person recommending the applicant and the stamp of the university/department. They cannot be older than six months at the time of application.
- Consent of a habilitated lecturer at the Austrian target institution to academically supervise the applicant;
- Scan of your passport (name and photo page); – Scan of your university graduation certificate (diploma, master’s, and/or PhD or doctoral studies); – Scientific synopsis and bibliography related to the research project.

Eligibility
- highly qualified researchers in the field of history with Austria-related topics
- PostDocs and PraeDocs from countries where the Habilitation system (state doctorate/postdoctoral lecture qualification) is unfamiliar.
- The applicants’ teaching activity and publications will be considered when determining their eligibility for the Richard Plaschka Fellowship.
- Applicants must not have studied/researched/academically worked in Austria six months before applying for the grant.
- Applicants who permanently reside in Austria or have studied in Austria for most of their academic careers are ineligible to apply.
- Before applying for this grant, applicants must contact the research institution of their choice in Austria.
- Applicants must follow the admissions policies of the respective university.
